Keep a watch out for others
EVERYONE NEEDS GOOD NEIGHBOURS
You may have read of the recent case of the elderly lady who died in her own home, where her body lay undiscovered for 35 days, despite seven attempted visits to her home from a care agency during this time.
This tragedy provides everyone with a timely reminder of the need to be a good neighbour, both this Christmas and at all times, by keeping a watchful eye on vulnerable friends and neighbours.
While the majority of people enjoy festive celebrations with friends and family, the holiday season can prove an especially lonely time for pensioners and for people living on their own.
With local services shutting down and many people going away over the holidays, it is especially important to keep an eye out for elderly neighbours.
As well as feeling isolated, many elderly people worry about their health and safety. As the weather gets colder and the nights longer, people begin to suffer from poor health and would benefit from help and support from family, friends and neighbours. This could be shopping, cleaning or just a bit of companionship. A friendly call to see that all is well and that there is sufficient food and warmth is a small gesture that makes a tremendous difference.
Please think of people you know who would appreciate a visit or call and check that they are well throughout the Christmas season.
